Pellet grill weight, size and assembly

Full-size pellet grills weigh 100 pounds or more and arrive in a heavy box. Plan two people for unboxing and assembly, a flat spot well away from the house, and an outlet within reach. The portable picks are the exception.

Amazon lists the Woodridge at 181.6 lb. Traeger's own pages say 138 lb, so the Amazon figure may include packing. The box will be heavy either way.
Assembly tips
- Open the box where the grill will live, or close to it. Rolling it assembled is easier than carrying parts.
- Check every panel for dents before you start. Some Pro 22 owners report units arriving damaged. It is easier to sort out before the grill is built.
- Follow the maker's first burn-in or seasoning steps before cooking food.
- Keep the manual. Traeger says its grills carry the fuel input rating on a label under the hopper lid.
Where it should sit
- Outdoors only, well away from the house and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches, per NFPA.
- On a flat, stable surface, away from lawn games, play areas and foot traffic.
- With a 3 foot kid-free and pet-free zone around it.
- Where rain will not soak the pellets. Traeger says moisture and humidity hurt pellet quality.
Power
A pellet grill needs electricity for its auger, fan and igniter. Most plug into a household outlet. The Trek can also run from a car's 12V supply. If the power drops mid-cook, the fire can go out, so know where the outlet is and keep the cord out of the walkway.

Before you light it
- Outdoors only. NFPA says to place the grill well away from the home and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Kid-free zone. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet from the grill.
- Stay with it. NFPA says never leave a grill unattended while it is in use. An app is not a substitute for being nearby.
- Clean out grease. Remove grease and fat buildup from the grates and the trays below.
- Use a food thermometer. Cook to USDA safe minimum internal temperatures. See the temperature page.
